In 2026, we no longer just talk about “AI that helps you code” but about agents: AIs you hand a complete task to and that work on their own inside your project. The question keeps coming up: which one should you choose? Here is our experience as a studio that uses them daily to ship websites in 24h.
What is an AI coding agent?
An agent receives a goal in plain language, then chains actions together: reading existing code, creating or editing files, installing dependencies, running the app, reading errors and trying again. You approve the important steps; it does the rest.
The main AI agents compared
| Agent | Where it works | Strengths | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Claude Code (Anthropic) | Terminal, editors, web | Long tasks, large projects, highly configurable | Complete projects, redesigns, automations |
| Codex (OpenAI) | Terminal, cloud, editors | Background tasks, close instruction-following | Well-defined tickets, parallel work |
| Cursor | Dedicated code editor | Visual interface, multi-file editing | Day-to-day coding in an editor |
| GitHub Copilot (agent mode) | VS Code, GitHub | GitHub and pull request integration | Teams already on GitHub |
| Lovable, v0, Bolt | Browser | Nothing to install, instant preview | Beginners, quick prototypes |
Mainly Claude Code and Cursor, because our websites are built with Next.js and we want full control over code, speed and SEO.
Rankings change with every model release: try two agents on your own project before committing.
How to choose your AI agent
- You are starting out and want to see results right away: a browser tool.
- You want to learn and stay in control: Cursor.
- You want to delegate entire tasks: Claude Code or Codex.
- Your team lives on GitHub: Copilot in agent mode.

Best practices, whatever the agent
- Give a precise goal and a success criterion (“the form sends an email”).
- Work in small steps and commit with Git in between.
- Review what the agent changed before approving.
- Never give it passwords or keys in plain text.
